Why is it acceptable to stop feeding your children for a season? Bizarre.

This is regularly us, though once a week we have a "nice" breakfast for the whole family and the occasional whole family hot lunch of some sort.

Nobody is talking about asking what young sir would like to dine on this evening. They’re talking about making the same meals they make year round, and making them for four or five rather than two, which is not a ton more work.

Yes - we have family dinner together for whoever is home at dinnertime. I cook 80% of the time and DH cooks 20%. Kids are on their own for breakfast and lunch.

? No. Not really.

I mean, I need to eat, too, so yeah, I cook dinner almost every night all year long. We eat as a family 99% of the time. Both of my teens love family dinner. Good discussions.

I work and for the record my child works and is taking a class but even if it was during the 2 weeks he was "just laying around"...

I cook M/T/W. If they are not there the food is available to reheat.

Saturday is every man for himself (we usually go out)
Sunday my H cooks.

My teen expects it because it's what we have done his whole life. If I changed the plan then that would be fine with him too.

It’s all about communication. I’ll tell them if I’m not going to cook dinner. Or I’ll say “hey can you make X because I’m super busy.”

But no I don’t expect them to guess whether or not they should be fending for themselves or cooking a meal for the family. They have plenty of chores and help out a ton, but they’re not in charge of reading my mind.

For many people cooking is stress release and if do all over weekend -so during week is just heating up - a way for everyone to eat less expensive meals and usually healthier for lunch/dinner whether eat together or as come and go.

Mine are still in high school and yes I cook for them or purchase them takeout if I am not cooking. I feel it is our responsibility as long as they are in HS. If they go out with friends, that is on them. Even when they are in college, DH and I still need to eat and I can’t imagine leaving them out. If DH and I have other plans, yes I’m sure they can fend for themselves.

I pretty much stopped cooking when my DS went to college. I hate cooking and it felt like such a chore. Now that he is home for the summer, we alternate cooking. One night per week, it's cereal night. Sometimes we mix cereal together because my son did that at the school cafeteria. It's fun!

Dh and I trade cooking, though lately the 18 year old has been making dinner too. We eat as a family, assuming everyone is home.
