I don’t know if the parents on the Swimming thread would agree with you. Follow what the health department is just now changing for all of these pools with shallow lap lanes.

Op here. Thanks for helpful responses - I decided to step away so hadn’t checked back. I do see things come up on my social media but it’s slowing down and I’m going on a vacation where I’ll be busy so hopefully I’ll get less of that. I live in CA so forest fires and mudslides and earthquakes / natural disasters feel very possible. It frankly hasn’t occurred to me to ask the evacuation plan for sleep away camps (older DD wanted to go this summer, but isn’t going). My friend said for her DD’s camp they had a parents’ night with very detailed information about their forest fire evacuation strategy - the camp did evacuate out of precaution a few years ago. Anyway, things are getting a bit better for me.

To the posters or poster who asked why I only care about American lives - on one hand, I specified that the last time I was this sad about American children was Uvalde. That doesn’t mean that I’m not sad about other children whether in America or elsewhere. On the other hand, it is true that the stresses for me are the situations where it’s very easy to imagine “there but for the grace of God.” While violence, hunger, and natural disasters are appalling in so many places right now - and likely to get worse - the circumstances are so dire that I don’t imagine how easy it would be to be in those shoes. Frankly I didn’t even feel this way with the LA fires - I don’t know why, but I’m grateful. It was easier for me to donate supplies and money without getting emotionally sucked in. I suspect it’s that the news focused on so many of the victims who were girls the same ages as my children.

This could happen anywhere. Be real.

Not really, Texas puts profit over lives. This wasn't their first flood. When's the last time the DMV had flooding that killed over 100 people?

What happened in Texas was completely preventable and is a result of lax regulation. They placed the camp in a flood zone. Do you live in an unregulated state like Texas or a place where government is valued, like Maryland?
