This is a very subjective phrase but I take it as casual dress is acceptable.

Dress so that you look cute and appropriate. Sundress, comfy shoes, sunglasses (if in the daytime and outside), sunhat.

It’s terrible wording.

What they probably meant is it will be hot and you’ll be expected to stand a lot. But they should have said it differently.

Another that thinks khaki shorts on men is a-ok. The only thing men should not do ever is tank tops. Ever. And ballcaps inside. And sunglasses on their head.

Men should wear shorts with that dress code. It's hot. Show a little leg.

I keep thinking that - there are definitely chinos (or, say, seersucker pants) that are going to be MORE comfortable than jeans.

My dh does not think any sort of khaki or chino pants are comfortable. He prefers shorts and then jeans. Slacks are what he's forced to wear to work and he hates it.

Uniqlo has some light colored jeans that basically look like khakis or chinos -- sort of an bone colored lightweight denim with a slightly wider leg. My son likes those and looks nice in them. Something like that with a linen shirt would actually be really nice for a casual wedding.

I'd ask why they specified, so I can better choose my outfit.

I’d be wary of how guests interpret that. Went to a wedding where a middle-aged woman wore graphic T-shirt, jeans and sneakers.

Thanks PPs!

Dress for sitting on wooden benches, and know you'll have to maneuver picnic style tables/chairs, bar stools and low couches. Pretend its an ax-throwing venue and dress accordingly.

Should mention the clothing is from Lulu's work and dressier men's line. They are not athletic wear although share benefits.

I would wear a sundress and nice flats/low platform sandals. And would advise DH to wear his Lululemon slacks which are cool and stretchy comfy plus they do have press lines. Depending on the weather, short or long sleeve shirt also from Lululemon. The shirts look tailored when tucked in but are also sweat wicking and cool.
