These threads are so dumb.

Top 10 will vary from person to person. If you are interested in a SLAC, then your top 10 will include schools like Amherst, Bowdoin, Williams etc. But people interested in those schools would have zero interest in Cal, Michigan or Texas.

So questions like this are really silly.

We all know what schools are included in HYPMS.

So what are the maybe 2-3 schools not included in either of the above - if any? Cal Tech? What does T-10 even mean?

I’ll bite.

HYPSM
Caltech
WASP

There’s your 10!

WASP is not Top10, its not the 80's!!!

No idea why people are discussing Rice, Williams, or Chicago

Chicago > Penn,Duke, Brown , Columbia..

Caltech is up there w/ MIT

Caltech lacks a lot of opportunities that mit has.

Chicago makes perfect sense. It is a highly cerebral place with awesome post grad success. Definitely deserves to be in the conversation. Rice is forgettable, and Williams? not even sure I know where or what it is.

It's a good school, but I have no earthly clue why it is being mentioned next to Harvard and Princeton.

OP: no disrespect but LACs belong in a different grouping. I was thinking national universities.

It seems the only non-Ivy, non-HYPMS T-10 suggestions that don't elicit an immediate rebuke are CalTech and Duke.

I think a lot of people would like to believe maybe 10 other universities are also T-10.

Lacs don’t belong in the top 10. There’s no coherent way to compare.

Uchicago is better than Amherst.

UChicago is an ED2 app after Amherst (which has no ED2) denies your ED2 application. Not even sure UChicago is top 20 if you include SLACs.

Any school that has ED2 should not be in contention. That also means Swarthmore, Rice and Hopkins.

Really great point. ED2 is basically saying "we are thrilled to be your second choice." No shame in that as there are some really great schools with ED2. But not Top 10.

Depends on criteria. For example, here is one top 10:
Cornell
Maryland
Penn State
Princeton
Syracuse
Richmond
Ohio State
Notre Dame
Duke
UNC

Or, another
Georgia Tech
USC (east coast version)
Florida State
Virginia Tech
Clemson
Alabama
Auburn
Georgia
Arkansas
Kentucky

You forgot Hopkins and Georgetown which are solidly in the top 10.

Georgetown? lol

It’s actually a way tougher admit than Chicago ED. Georgetown has no ED. But don’t see either as top10.

Lolllllll
