Thanks all. SIL believes now is not the time for my DH to talk to her H. She appreciated the offer - she viewed that readiness as moral support.

She thinks that if her H has a conflict with my DH, her H will refuse her to take her son out of state to visit us in the future. They visit every other year. We rotate visits.

She is speaking to a lawyer and has our support.

Absolutely this. He's not going to change because a good man calls him out. You and h should throw all your weight into supporting your SIL.

She should stop caring for her MIL and hand that over to stbx.

I think you should stay out of their marriage.
If your husband wants to talk with his brother - great -- his choice.

As for her taking care of the MIL -- again, that's on your SIL.

Since you're invested -- recommend a good lawyer..

Her DH has been very rude/emotionally abusive the past few months, but never physically abusive.

WTH does this mean? That poor woman.

It means they were not very nice to her and now want drama.
