It’s 3 nights. She’s been there before. She just wanted some advice about driving and scheduling. She already has a place to stay. How is this a logical comment? Why 20 posts about bug spray? There’s no way a person planning a trip there doesn’t already know about the infamous bugs. And do you honestly not think she knows that coolers keep drinks cool in the car? Sometimes reading this site makes me lose faith in human intelligence.

Mosquitoes are the size of birds and plentiful. Come prepared to spray yourself. Wildlife loop we got chased out by a sizable swarm.

I thought I would go for a run through the nature preserve. mad it about 100 ft in and was covered in mosquitoes. they were biting through my leggings. It turned ran out of there. The beach was fine minus the sea lice that came out one day...ugh.

Same here. Never going out again past dusk.

There are some very nice trails to see birds and a lighthouse. Agree with everyone on TONS of bug spray.

Summer is always the worst time to visit these parks. The biting flies will be out of control, plus the mosquitos, and the heat/humidity. We much prefer to see them in the late autumn or winter.

Yeah seriously. No joke

My most vivid memories of our week at Assateague/Chincoteague are of the whole family RUNNING from the car to the beach or beach to car because the mosquitos swarmed on us immediately and bit all over our bodies, through clothes. It was shocking and I have never experienced bugs like that anywhere else, and I've been on beaches in 12 countries.

numerous and big, they will bite you through your jeans, so we had to spray our clothes too!

We went camping there once, and once the sun went down even the campfire wouldn't keep them away. We spent our nights just playing cards in the tent.

I second the boat tour from Chincoteague! We did a sunset tour last fall and saw dolphins, eagles, and the ponies. The guide was super knowledgeable and had lived there his whole life.

Renting bikes (or bringing bikes) is a great way to see nature and the island! Ride around the wildlife loop and take the path that goes you to the beach. A lot less people. Peaceful and beautiful.

Pico is an awesome taco place. Ropewalk is a fun restaurant; sit outside for dinner under the palm trees, and you'll see a beautiful sunset! Amarin had d3licious pastries and coffee.

Captain Barry does an boat tour on the bayside of Chincoteague that is great for kids. It's very interactive and educational. Book ahead of time!
