Once I was old enough to understand what “Independence Day” actually celebrated, I didn’t really celebrate it in any meaningful way. This year, I might try to plan something that celebrates the ideals of the United States, while doing something more community oriented for Juneteenth.

I’m surprised too. I actually was kind of expecting Trump to do just that — as part of his birthday celebrations.

You mean like how we call “the 4th of July” : “the 4th of July” — and expect people to actually learn more about the history behind “Independence Day” — and how “independence “ was really “something (only) relevant for a subset of Americans “?

I love that it's on a Thursday this year. I only need to blow 1 day of PTO to get a 4-day weekend. Thanks Biden!

Anyway, I'm excited because this is going to be our first NO RAIN weekend in like a month. Heading to the beach for the weekend.

Because the people that initially started the celebration called it that. The title doesn't change the meaning of the celebration nor does it diminish anything. If white people can't rename it, it doesn't matter? Really think about what you're saying, because it sounds like you're reaching for any reason to take issue with this celebration. Why is that?
