Who want's that noise for the next four years? So many strong students have misgivings about attending Columbia now. The caliber of students choosing to attend is undoubtedly weaker than in prior years. Columbia has a lot of work to do to get it together and that's going to take some time.

This is absurd. They had a 3.5% admission rate this year for a class of 1500 kids. Let's say they're taking an additional 400 kids to get to that 1500 over a typical year. You really think the next 400 kids are so much weaker than the first 1500 out of the more than 60K who applied?

I've met some of them. They suck.

Someone sure does.

If going for education then Penn. If interested in a soap opera then Columbia.

Every school has kids who suck. Have you met more than 20% of the students there and they all suck? Then your opinion is valuable. Otherwise, no.

For some reason it’s always Ok to say this about kids going to Columbia or another top school, but if you say you met kids going to Frostburg and they are dumb as bricks…well, that’s just not allowed.

Do you really have to have a ton of money to send your kid to Columbia for undergrad? This is of course all theoretical- my son hasn’t even applied- but it’s his dream school, would love to live in NYC, loves the school. But we are not rich and he wouldn’t have a ton of spending money. Would his life suck there? I am pushing him to look at Penn, too, which is why I clicked on this thread. I’ve heard that Penn is kind of fratty and bro and banking though- which he is not… gay, humanities, NYC-loving.

Penn provides a great undergrad experience! Kids have a good balance of academics and social life. Career services is fabulous. As another poster noted, the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences has a lower acceptance rate than Wharton.

+1 There’s like 7 different posts about Columbia wait lists today that seem designed to complain about how there were pro Palestinian posts there. Some people have political grudges that they seem to air by creating nonsense posts.
