Where are Northeastern and Bucknell?
Northeastern is #220, just below Rice at #219. (There's a Northeastern University in China at #445.) I didn't see Bucknell -- though I stopped scrolling at #638.
For context, Dartmouth is tied for #326 with the University of Lagos.
Really Northeastern (220), Rice (219) and UVA (137)! Go Cavaliers!!!!! Wahoo!!!
I don’t trust the Northeastern ranking…school probably fudged its submitted stats.
You've got it completely backward. Northeastern is one of the most trustworthy schools.
They have been straightforward, open, and transparent, and never accused of cheating like many many other schools.
You should be suspicious of schools like Emory, UCBerkeley, Columbia, etc.

It's really weird there have been many schools flat out cheated and got caught.
These people never mention that, but pick on Northeastern every single time.
Maybe it's just one or two hardcore trolls having a really hard feeling about the school for some reason??
More because we can count on riling the Northeastern booster every time. It’s like they have DCUM alerts sent to them.
Even though Northeastern to this day employs all kinds of tricks to juice their rankings.
Yes, tactics such as having one of the best retention rates, great graduation rate, high quality student body, amazing outcomes, etc. etc.
Your kid at one of the cheater schools or something?

And meanwhile the University of Washington in Seattle comes in as the 8th best university in the world. I can see why schools like Rice and Dartmouth score low - they hardly have any graduate students, but are still universities. But I am mystified by these rankings none the less. It reads like a list composed by a monkey throwing darts.
Not really, I take global reputation into account when discussing these schools. In Rices peer group its the weak.
WashU>Vanderbilt>Emory>CMU> Dartmouth>Rice> Georgetown> Notre Dame
All of those schools are worse than CMU, unless you're into some niche majors.

Another knock against this list... I struggle with the lack recognition of for LACs in international rankings. If the world only knew what special and magical schools they are missing out on and since LACs are dying the world may never know. Sad.

The methodology is very different from their ranking of US universities.
It has to be…how is it that a Med school is #40. It has to be based on the volume of research coming out, but obviously they don’t care that Icahn school of Medicine won’t have any research on a non-medical topic.
these rankings – which focus exclusively on institutions' overall academic research and reputations and not on their separate undergraduate or graduate programs ..
The rankings assess academic research and reputation, but personal considerations – including location, campus culture, strength of particular programs and cost – are also very important considerations.
The second step was to calculate the rankings using the 13 indicators and weights that U.S. News chose to measure global research performance.
The survey results were used in two separate ranking indicators, as follows.
Global research reputation (12.5%): This indicator reflects the aggregation of the most recent five years of results of the Academic Reputation Survey for the best universities globally for research.
