Rent plus commuter meal plan plus $200. When our kids are/were home for a break or weekend or when we visited them, we would take them on a grocery run and gas up their cars.

You know your kid, how they have been raised and your financial situation.

We are confident about our kids and they have full access to our credit card. No, they don't misuse it, but if they want to eat sushi once in a while or take an uber, they are 100% covered.

Don't your kids make their own money during the summers?

This is insane. Your kids are spoiled and will be far worse off in life because of it.

We pay rent and kid has one of our credit cards. True education expenses can be charged to include weekly grocery. Rest of expenses are on them.

1000 is for whatever. I pay tuition and rent directly. He has a credit card that is my account (he is a card holder) that he uses for school supplies, fees and groceries. The 1k is for everything else. He goes to school in an expensive city.

There is no city that costs this much for a college student if you are also paying utilities and rent,

$1000 a month plus rent. This is in a city and we don't really supplement other than this except airline tickets home.

Rent + utilities.

It depends on the kid. My DD has no budget. I pay her tuition, books, rent, and utilities. She is on our netflix, etc. and I pay for her Pilates membership. She has a debit card for groceries, eating out, incidentals, etc. Some months she spends more than others, but she is overall frugal. If I had to ballpark it, I would say about $400-500 a month. DS I had to give him a budget of $500 a month. Otherwise, he would spend way too much money. He was always broke at the end of the month till he learned how to budget and manage.
