At the bank, after talking to her mother and understanding that her daughter is dead, it triggers her suppressed memories, which we see as quick flashback scenes. We see that when the principal saw Janiyah at school, she looked confused, indicating that Janiyah was alone. And the phone call wasn’t from the school, it was a bill collector calling about past-due bills. That's why when she shows up at the school and argues with the social workers, the principal is just standing there looking at her, sort of in disbelief. There were no social workers there.

I was so confused at the end that I had to look up what happened. What were the clues?

The way the school lady waves at her confused she is there. The backpack and meds discarded on the curb and not with the child.
Also, when she was at the school to bring the lunch money and she was arguing with the cps workers in the hallway, the principal stood there just watching but never said a word, because those cps workers weren’t really there. Principle just stood there with a concerned look, watching her.
