I agree, and frankly as an American I find it sort of odd that the French have those parades because it seems out of keeping with the national character in many ways, but you do you.

Totally. The parade route is just under .9 miles from the Lincoln past the White House and then it ends. The only seating is right in front of the White House with the Washington Monument as the backdrop. So the White House is the focal point and it is all about Trump. And crazy amounts of security for an event that should feel more like 4th of July. I think it's disgusting (and I'm from a military family) and will be at a No Kings event.

French PP. Humane elimination. Guillotine is certainly dramatic for onlookers, but was designed to cause minimal suffering. Apparently it might be less painful than some forms of lethal injection.

While a celebration had been planned, it was the Trump administration who converted it to a wastefully expensive display of weaponry in the style of dictator type regimes. Usually our parades focus on the veterans and active duty - the PEOPLE - rather than this. He actually tried to do this kind of parade during his first term and was shot down. There is a large Trump megalomaniac component to what we ended up with. I find it gross.

True. And it’s too bad that instead of honoring the Army and their celebrations that had long been planned, those plans got co-opted by twisted self-interest.
