I’m 54 and I still have the mark inside my right hand from where my nasty abusive older brother stabbed me with a pencil when I was 5 years old and broke the tip off inside my palm. It’s faded a great deal over the years but I’m glad it’s still there - it’s an interesting anecdote should I choose to tell it and it always reminds me that even the men you love can be brutal.

It’s never caused me any harm on the health front, I wouldn’t disfigure your kid to try to remove a bit of graphite.

Another poster. The stab was unintentional not on purpose. It hurt at the time. Didn’t bother telling anyone about it in 2nd grade.

Like others who have posted, I know people who still have black marks from pencil wounds that happened decades ago. Unfortunately, it is like a tattoo. Be happy it's just his hand.

I stabbed myself with a pencil in the palm of my hand in 2nd grade and it's still with me in my 50s. I view it as a part of my life and it's traveled with me. It's been interesting to see how it's moved across my palm as I have matured.

I did that to my face when I was in elementary school. It disappeared over some time.

According to a random Internet article, the appropriate way to remove a pencil stab induced graphite tattoo is like any other tattoo - with lasers.

I'm 48. I have it in my left arm from probably middle school.

Knee, 1980, girl walking back down the aisle of desks from the pencil sharpener accidentally bumped into me.

I've had that black mark so long, I didn't even notice it anymore. This post made me actually go and look for it, and it's gone! I had to check both knees to be sure I was remembering the correct one.

So yeah, it did eventually go away, but it took 40+ years. No adverse effects, as far as I can tell.

Good lord, no. My DH stabbed himself in the thigh when he was probably about 8. It's still there. He's 55. He's a productive adult.
