I'm petite and skinny with a relatively flat tummy but my waistline expands about 3-4 inches after having a "normal" meal that it looks pretty obvious on my frame. What I have observed is that carbs, carbonated drinks, and certain alcoholic drinks like beer make the situation even worse so you might want to minimize those.
Not OP but this is my issue on vacation. I think flying also exacerbates this problem. I don't drink much alcohol but I love carbonated beverages on vacation. And am more likely to eat carb-heavy meals. We spent spring break at a resort and I got a bit of a complex while we were there because I usually don't think about my belly at all and I think I looked like I had a gut all week.
Also I'm mid-40s and I think some of this is "menopause belly".
When I got home and went back to my normal eating habits, my stomach shrank without losing any weight.
It's annoying but I guess I'm not willing to sacrifice eating this way on vacation. I might try to scale it back some, but vacation is the one time I truly don't second guess myself when I order food -- I just get what sounds good and don't worry about it. Oh well.
