Who are you even responding to? The OP didn't say the kid had a job or not. Many people seem to agree keep whatever hours you want if you have a job. Except for the person whose kids are independently wealthy and don't need a job.

You didn’t answer the question. You just said teens should have a job in different words. What value do you think there is in teens having a job and why is it more valuable than teens having independence and learning to make their own decisions? Or just, you know, more valuable than gettin more sleep?

I’d bet my house that you have no clue why you hold this opinion. You don’t seem like the thinking type.


Let me guess. Your kids show their independence and decision-making skills on teen "service trips".

So your teens have independence and learn how to make decisions with your money. That works for you. Great. My kids like to spend money so they need to earn some money. Feels different to spend it when you earned it.

I also think it's important to experience a job in the service, retail, child care, or customer service industry. It was very formative for me and helped me realize why it was important for me to go to college.

I had a job as a teen and still slept until 1pm or later lots of days in the summer. I worked retail at the mall.

I don’t care how late my kids sleep. Really, it doesn’t matter to me as long as they aren’t keeping me up at night when I sleep. I stayed awake until all hours of the night at a teen and young adult. Now I’m middle age and am up before 6 most days. I wish I could sleep late again.

My tween & teens sleep as late as they want to, but phones are turned in at 10:30 to charge, and WIFI shuts off at midnight. They wake up around 10 usually. Sometimes 11. All have either summer classes (afternoon), sports and/or PT jobs and productive things to do. But not in the morning. I have no problem with them catching up on sleep in the summer as long as they are meeting their responsibilities.

My kids are good kids who do well in school. They are responsible for getting themselves up during the school year, making their own lunches, etc. If they don’t have an obligation on a summer morning, I’m happy for them to sleep and rest.

Like another pp said, they have their whole lives ahead of them to work and be corporate drones. Why wouldn’t I want them to have a restful summer as a teenager?

I have a 13yo. Bedtime might be 30 mins later over the summer ( right now lights out at 930) but that’s it. Unless there’s a special occasion or something. It’s not the getting up late tbat would irk me, it’s the being awake until midnight or later…. Theyre not doing anything productive, watching screens so no. Go to bed.
Mine actually has camp most of the summer anyway so needs to get up for that.

Why do you think your teen needs to help you with YOUR kids? You had them. They had no choice in that. Parents like you are super lazy and want to pawn their kids on the oldest.
