If only having one, then Hendricks is commonly known and will impress guests more.
You can’t go wrong with Sipsmith. Hendrick’s tells me that you don’t really know a lot about gin and that you have limited tastes.
There is a great YouTube channel with a British guy that tastes and reviews gins and does a fantastic job of describing each of the botanicals he can taste. Channel is called ‘No Nonsense Gin’

I also like Schweppes. Great bubbles and bitterness. I just wish they didn’t use junk high fructose corn syrup.
HFCS is bad, but not NEARLY as bad as the benzoate preservatives many tonic waters have in them. Those are highly carcinogenic when in the presence of acids like ascorbic acid, which basically most all G&T's will have. Even Fever Tree has that toxin in them.
Walgreens has tonic without it, but still has the HFCS.
Yikes. Is there no commercially sold tonic water that doesn't have it and hfcs?

Do you have a gin that you like? I don’t want to break the bank but am up for recommendations. Lately I’ve been drinking the Botanist.
We are pretentious about everything but love Tanqueray gin. The green bottle with the red stamp thing. We also stock Hendrick's. Both are excellent. More often than not we use or order Tanqueray. We don’t venture out and try other gin brands because we don’t drink that much, so we just stick with what we like. - OP
St. Germain PP here and this is exactly what we do, too. We have Hendricks on hand for others but Tanqueray is the one we actually drink. Same goes for Tito’s and Ketel.
Yeah, I keep a bottle of that garbage on hand for anyone who requests it. If someone wants it, that tells me they know nothing about liquor and to serve them the cheap stuff if they ask about other liquors.
