All vague promises and the 4th estate needs to stay relevant by trumpeting SOMETHING.

Just this week I’ve seen two concerning headlines relating to AI: one AI system which refused to turn off, ignoring a command to do so, and another one threatening to blackmail its engineers if they disable it.
This is dystopian. What’s further, it’s ENTIRELY (for now) in our human hands whether or not to continue developing this technology. I sincerely question the wisdom of those who advocate for AI.
What is the real agenda????
Because 1) humans are lazy and 2) a portion of humans have a deep seated hatred of humanity and think that we need higher intelligence to save ourselves.

Do we give in to the technofascists (Elon et al) and let their AI ruin us or do we lean into our base with economic populism (the workers who elected us) and try to implement policies to protect them?
Now that we have the power, what do we do?
Umm, I hate to break it to you, but republicans are the ones pushing AI.
Half of the Republicans are pushing it. Half are calling AI leaders Technofascists who want us all to be their digital serfs.
The founding fathers were wrong. We should have had a parliamentary system.

some of you posters are so GD annoying. does it ever get old being so negative?
We need UBI and a generous one to boot. yang was right.
Assuming that the technofascists think the common citizen deserves a generous UBI. We’re assuming we’ll be dealing with nice people who give a hoot what becomes of the masses.
They will give you just enough to not starve to death. It's happened before - in fact, it happens every time a group gets a lot of political and economic power over another group.

I’m tired of these, too. It’s every day a new doomsday thread about AI…I feel like it’s a bit of something. I posted about this but my post was removed.
What is the bot hoping to achieve?
They do seem like bot posts. I was trying to put my finger on it.
I am also tired of these posts. They are all along the same lines and one or more new one each day instead of adding to an existing thread. I reported this and some others but Jeff doesn’t seem to mind them.
