This sounds really weird and miserable. You are already getting very little sleep what with baby cluster feeding/crying and the nurses coming in to do medical checks for you and baby. Having a second person’s baby crying and being woken for their checks too would basically ensure no sleep.

My hospital in downtown Baltimore had private rooms

Are there any local hospitals that have shared rooms in 2025? None of the dc ones I know ( gw, medstar, georgetown, sibley) do

They do for the illegal alien moms.

What are you talking about

Illegal alien women in labor cannot, by law, be turned away from a hospital.

However, illegal aliens do not have insurance, don’t qualify for Medicare, and they do not have the $40,000 to pay the hospital back for the delivery costs.

Essentially: society provides these women free medical care. It’s only fair to make them at least share a room, since the hospital has to eat all the other delivery costs.

Yet this doesn't happen locally and most people on Medicare are 65+, not making babies...

Sibley was shared in 2015. I paid for the private room.

Exactly. It sounds dowright inhumane

100% agree

Agreed. I already had so little sleep after a multi day labor. I can't imagine the hell if someone else's baby was keeping me up too.

No. Pay for a private room. This is for poor people.

I've only heard of this in NYC in the US, and other places in Europe. The hospital I gave birth to my daughter at, in Chicago, used to have shared rooms but had phased them out by the time I gave birth a little under a decade ago, and I've never heard of any other moms in this city sharing rooms.

Not around here , no. Never heard of a woman having to share. I’ve delivered in DC and Virginia, all private rooms.

+1. This. I was in a shared room at a NYC hospital, but no one else was there, with my first. I had my second and third in the Greenwich, CT hospital and all rooms are single. I moved to Greenwich before I got pregnant with my second.
