I've been exposed to JH and JT. They have different styles, but I like both of them.

What drama does JH cause? He has a very specific approach and really focuses on developing the kids. Unlike JT and other coaches who usually get the top two teams, JH is often asked to develop very raw, new players. He does it well. He gives even playing time in league games, but might give more time to higher performing players in tournaments. He is quick to pull a kid if they make the same mistake a couple times, and a lot of parents take issue with seeing their kid "benched". But watch him--JH doesn't leave the kid sitting on the bench. He usually talks with them and talks about what he saw and what he wants to see. Then he tries to put them back in quickly.

I have no idea if my daughter is going to get an offer, get officially cut, or get nothing. I don't know if to be sad or relieved. We don't have an offer anywhere else. This was our first year with Bethesda and I'm just really disappointed all around. I had no idea it would be this messy and disorganized.

I highly recommend checking out MSI if they still have tryouts this week. They have a current BSC coach (JH) joining them next year who has been great since he came to BSC from Potomac. MSI Gold/Silver may not always compete at the same level as BSC Pre-E or Blue/White (depends on the age group), but he will develop players' technical skills. We played for him last year at BSC and he developed quite a few players who moved up to BSC Pre-E and E2.

I second this recommendation. Our neighbor is a current 2014 BCS family who declined their BSC Pre E offer. They are noodling on offers from Potomac, MSI, and I think PPA. As of right now, they are leaning towards MSI looks because of what they have heard about JH (their daughter wasn't previously coached by him) and apparently MSI is a fraction of the cost of both Potomac and PPA.

I don't know who JT is, but JH coached my daughter, and we had a drama free year. In fact, it was the best year of our 3 years at Bethesda so far. I don't know about the other guy J - my daughter isn't good enough to be on his team - or KL or AS, but I sure have heard enough that I am patiently waiting for an offer for MM team (assuming there is still one to be had because I am beginning to wonder if they will have enough paying families for 4 teams now - yikes).

Our DD is at FCGB, but her classmate has been with BSC for three years. She received a BSC third team offer but opted to leave for MSI. Her mom mentioned a coach they like, but not sure if it is this same one.

Sometimes they are, but not always. In some age groups the MSI Gold team has beat both BSC 3rd/4th teams. BSC 3rd/4th teams are usually better than the MSI Silver teams though. However, I heard that BCS coach JH is leaving BSC and going over to MSI and will be coaching the 2014 and 2012 Silver team (MSI announced him as a coach for next year on their website). JH is a great gain for MSI. He has a great reputation as a coach, for both older and younger teams, and mostly importantly as an individual. If MSI can pull together a good roster for its Silver teams (heard they are off to a good start with the 2014 team giving the BSC debacle), I'm betting on MSI's 2014 Silver team over whatever Pre E team BCS manages to cobble together.

This is correct at more and more ages, plus things can change awfully fast with a few strong additions and added depth if girls leave BSC/Potomac for MSI.

Agreed. And whether BSC/Potomac like it or not, girls are leaving for MSI, Juventus, FCGB, ROSA, others. Maybe not from E1 or E2, but from the teams that finance the clubs' overall operations.

That part! There is a full-on mass exodus of 2014 from those on the first team to the 5th team! Period! What will they do to support their 1st team when they don't have a bunch of parents willing to pay $3000 for a White team? I guess they will run out and hope to find families unfamiliar with this forum. LOL

Since her post is going to be removed...

You must be the parent he is having the affair with. LOL. Like literally NO ONE speaks this highly of him! I don't have any personal issues with the man, but kids have literally left the team in the middle of the year or the club altogether because of what they described as mental and emotional abuse of TEN YEAR OLDS! Good grief. But look, if your kids flourishes in that environment that's great and sounds like KL will be the next perfect coach for her. But imagine a world where some parents value their kids emotional and mental well-being over a sport. BTW: The admin of DC Urban Mom is going to remove your response - LOL - there is a fairly well known rule against referring to people by their names! Duh, that's why everyone is using initials silly rabbit! LOL

Coach of e2 team nice enough but not always present (parents with coaching experience often had to step in to coach when she couldn’t be there). Coach of pre e team was nice, but was new. Coach of blue and white team, a failure to launch. Then come tryouts and other than the girls on the e1 team no one really knew where they stood. It took them forever to announce the coaching slate for next year and when they did, the list was lackluster at best. The coach of e1 and e2 teams, has a winning record but apparently he accomplishes that by creating a negative competitive spirit. The coach of the Pre E team, I don’t know of anyone with anything positive to say about him. Coach of the 4th team seems nice enough but the word is he always gets stuck with the bottom team and they expect him to work a miracle with them.

The end result - offers came out, and those who got Pre E offers went in search of something betterf.

WOW!!! wake up and smell the drama... Parents who don't get the offers they want or think their child deserves come on these forums and talk poorly about coaches who have been nothing short of outstanding. The current 2014s u11 coach Jasons main focus has and continues to be the development of the whole team and the individual player (which is more then most coaches). Jason took the 2014 E1s for two years... They spent fall 2024 losing most of their regular season games and could not make it out of a bracket to save their lives at their tournaments... By winter 2025 the girls were cohesive, well connected and developing. They trained up and eventually ranked number 1 in the state defeating all their competitors at Jefferson cup- top flight. Jasons coaching is unmatched. And while our team moves forward out of the youth development program we know we are in good hands moving forward with Kevin Layton.

Posts like the one above come from parents who say they want to work under coaches who only focus on development, but then complain when they get lesser offers then they think they deserve or who club hop and trophy chase!!!
