I love sardines! I like to eat them on toasted French bread.

Now that I think about it, I’m in the mood for sardines. I might have them for breakfast.

Every month or so I do a 72 hour sardine challenge. Only sardines for 72 hours. This helps me keep my weight stable and revs up my metabolism. By the end I am ready to eat something else but this makes me feel amazing.

Are you a bot? No chance all the sardine stuff going viral everywhere is organic.

Tinned fish has been a trend for forever now

I’ve been annoyed by the Fish Wife tins I’ve tried. Tasty, but completely overpriced. Patagonia Provisions has some nice samplers.

NP. Wild Planet lightly smoked with olive oil. Incredible out of the tin. I occasionally add a little salt and lemon, but that’s gilding the lily.

Quick weekend lunch is sardine with cheddar on crackers/ crusty bread with sprinkle of garlic powder and cayenne.
Also smoked trout, smoked salmon from Trader Joe’s. Oh and mail order from The Fish Wife. They were featured on a Sunday morning show and their stuff was pretty good

Go to the store and get one of each brand and each variety that they stock.
It's fun trying them all out and deciding for yourself.

OP again. My favorites (so far) are Nuri (any flavor, including plain in oil), Fishwife's preserved lemon flavor, and Flower's Moroccan spice (though the tomato sauce from Flower is also really good). Those all come in tins w/ oil (or tomato sauce). I found La Sirena brand at my local market, and they come in adorable tiny cans. The "pica poco" was spicy enough and the "pica pica" was genuinely spicy. I like spice, and have found that even sardines labeled such aren't very hot, so if you also like spicy, maybe look for spicy tomato or something similar, not just oil. I also like Nissui soy sauce and soybean paste, especially over rice (and buckwheat noodles, which I learned today!). I have heard great things about Matiz, but haven't found them locally yet. Patagonia actually makes tinned sardines now, and they're good. They come with other flavors (and beans!), so they're perfect as a quick meal without adding much else. Personally, I like to make sardine toasts with pickled onions, capers, preserved lemons, pepper sauces, etc., so I find plain sardines a bit easier to work with. But I do appreciate the convenience of being able to grab a fish tin and a carb and have a ready meal.

My "to try" list includes:

Skin & Bone
Santo Amaro
BELA
JOSÉ Gourmet
La Brújula Sardinas
El Manar

But really, I'll try any of them. A note: I prefer mine with their skins/bones. Some like boneless/skinless (I think they run a little dry), but I appreciate the extra calcium from the bones.

I love them. I'll mash them up with a little chopped cucumber or celery and eat it on crackers.
