Because dome people want to choose a school that aims for a good quality of life among its students rather than an intense, high-stress environment. What one's peers are doing affects the experience for everyone.

OP thought she was picking a school for her child where her child would be getting a reasonable dose of rigor *and* be in sync with the experience of her cohort.

But she learned that her school claims one approach but readily accommodates another.

I'd be annoyed too.

I would be pretty mad about that. If the school says it is a hard limit, then the school should stick to it. if it is just a recommendation, then the school should say that. But it seems like it is only a requirement for people who do not think to ask for an exception - that seems like a bad way to handle the situation.

I completely understand why OP feels misled. The school policy is… misleading! And it may have made OP feel her kid was more competitive when it came time for college admissions, but suddenly in 11th grade (late in the game) they find out that other kids have been taking classes beyond what should have been allowed per school’s published policy.

No limit on how many AP exams a student sits. No courses labeled as AP. School profile makes this clear, and provides indications of how many 3s, 4s, and 5s were achieved in recent years.
