I didn’t mind the ending and I’m glad he didn’t get away. I liked the last line, that we are the problem. This show (and book and concept) only work bc we are obsessed with this genre. His character is awful, delusional and people still cheer for him after murdering like 25 people.
I’m glad Kate and Brontë survived but I also didn’t find that super realistic - I assumed Kate was dead until the very end.
I also like pps note about Brontë/louise not “deserving” the ending, I agree. I was happy to see Marianne again, and it seems like her little chat is what pulled Brontë out of her love-fog.

Agreed. Season 4 introduced a lot of boring characters, which in turn didn't create a great Season 5. I did like Maddie though! She was great!


Oh yes! She was the exception. She was a fun character/characters!

Agreed. Season 4 introduced a lot of boring characters, which in turn didn't create a great Season 5. I did like Maddie though! She was great!

The characters were too unlikable for it to work, sort of lifeless with little charisma aside Ftom Joe. And I know Janine from Handsmaid is a fantastic actress so part of it was the writing, but also just people being miscast.

I would have preferred being left with the impression that Joe would live on, or having him taken out in some completely random and prosaic way. Hit by a bus or something.

I'm glad Joe had the ending that he did, but I did not like how much of a hand the new character had in it. It didn't feel like she "earned it," and would have been more satisfying if the past characters took him down. Also, it makes no sense that Kate and Bronte survived.

I liked the ending. People forget what You really is-- it was a Lifetime Movie Network show that Netflix bought. LMN is cheesey, campy, and sometimes heavy handed with the feminist messaging. Somewhere along the way, the audience started mistaking You for a high quality program, and that isnt what it was meant to be. Viewed through a LMN lens, this was a fantastic series.

I didn’t like the ending either.

While I usually like a happy ending nearly tying up the story, this one fell flat and seemed like a wild departure from the series.

The whole Girl Power!!! happy ending seemed forced and out of place. I admire their attempt to shift the narrative voice, but it just felt wrong.

Honestly, I would have liked to see it end with Joe once again miraculously getting away with it and starting over someplace new with his son. Bonus points for the narrative voice shifting to his kid. They could have done it in a kitschy yet slightly dark way, and that would have aligned better with the series.

That would have been a good ending. The attempt to impose conventional morality onto a story that worked best with satire and irony was definitely forced.
