I applaud Francis for meeting with Vance. I believe Vance’s conversion was shallow at best, fake at worst. Meeting with the Pope hopefully could have confronted JD with the understanding that he is not in fact superior to everyone else and is morally accountable for his actions.
+1 I hope Vance felt as small and fake as he is in the presence of a kind and morally upright human being.
I hope the Pope talked to him about the cruelty and sin of cutting off aid to Africa and using governmental power to deliberately sow fear.
Doubt it.
Why do you doubt it? This Pope is very outspoken.

The guy is such a phony Catholic who only converted ahead of running for the Senate.
This is a good way to get Catholics to vote for you as president. Throw out all the good parts of Catholic teachings.
Does he think he’s better at Catholicism than the Pope? Just declare yourself the Second Coming, JD.
Only MAGA Catholics are going to be impressed by his visit with the Pope. Non-MAGA Catholics will not be swayed by it to vote for him if he ever runs.

“The Vatican has one golden rule, ‘We talk with everyone, dictators, good Catholics, anyone,’” said Massimo Faggioli, Catholic theologian at Villanova University.
I believe Trump had a similar practice in meeting with leaders like Kim Jong Un, President Xi, etc... as well as other politically controversial people, but was lambasted for doing so.
Or did you just pick that quote because it makes you look clever. For the record, JD Vance is a good Catholic.
I am Catholic. If you were, you would know that "a good Catholic" is not a thing. Certainly not a title a random internet poster can determine.
I am happy that the Pope met with JD Vance. He will speak frankly to Vance about the horrific things this administration is doing. This may be the one time, Vance will willingly agree to listen to anyone who criticizes his views.
I will not judge whether Vance is a "good Catholic" or not. But I will say, that besides disobeying the Supreme Court and disregarding our Constitution, JD Vance and the Trump administration are going against so many parts of Catholic teaching that I can't possibly list them. I'll leave it with just this one: Catholic teaching emphasizes the dignity of all human life.
Do you feel the same about Biden, Pelosi, and other Catholic Democrats? They support numerous positions that are against Catholic teachings.

Honestly - it is one thing to be born Catholic and disagree with some teachings. Quite another one to convert opportunistically or because you fancy incense and Latin, then start to lecture everyone about how your view of Catholicism is correct and they need to be excommunicated.
+1000
Vance is an opportunist who changed his name, religion nad political views just to gain power. I don't believe he has any faith in anything.
Usha didn’t let him baptize the kids at birth. Gee I wonder why?

That last sentence is very offensive to good Catholics everywhere. Please stop. While one can hope for better behavior from this person, and we know with God it is possible, he is far from practicing as he should.
When you have the same disdain for EVERY Democrat who professes to be a good Catholic, let us know.

So no, and you excuse their beliefs. Good to know.
