Where do you live? I definitely see some of this but not a ton. I was concerned with this at my child's middle school but then when they took the Regents, SHSAT and ISEE they did really well, so clearly they were learning something. That being said, we turned down a good SHSAT placement (i.e. not Stuy and not Brooklyn Latin) and a decent Gen Ed HS placement for private for a number of reasons, including wanting to be out of the public school system.
