No.
You cannot obtain a US-issued SSN if you are NOT a legal citizen. These people are probably green card holders, naturalized citizens, here working on a visa/studying on a visa (H1Bs, F-1s, etc.), all of which are LEGAL immigrants. LEGAL. Keyword. They immigrated the correct way through the correct channels and were issued SSNs so that they can pay taxes and get services.
Just to clarify: a green card holder can have a SSN. When you are naturalized, you are no longer an immigrant.
The legal immigrants they are talking about here are probably asylum seekers whose status was recently revoked.
Cite for this? You don’t have one, because you have zero idea how these people were chosen. We do know that Trump has said the purpose is to make people self deport. Which means it’s highly likely you are wrong. If these people no longer had legal status, there would be no reason to jump through hoops and illegally alter government records to try to force self deportation. ICE could just pick them up and put them on a plane. The only reason to go through all this trouble is if they are here legally and are not eligible for normal deportation proceedings.

No. By definition, illegal immigrants are not eligible to get SSNs. They get TINs if they need to pay taxes. SSNs for non-citizens are lonely for people who have a valid work visa.

Illegal immigrants to not get SSNs. They might get TINs if they work to report earnings. But that’s the IRS, not SSA. And it keeps SSA from getting FICA taxes from immigrants who pay into the system, but often aren’t eligible for benefits to be paid out to them if they retire or disability. I thought Rs wanted legal immigration? Well, this punishes legal immigrants.
Why would you do this? Trump is finding that deporting millions of people is hard, so he is trying to force immigrants present and working legally to self deport. Because ot turns out not being able to get a W2 job, rent housing, get a car loan, have a bank account, etc, etc makes it almost impossible to live here
And knowingly marking people who aren’t dead as dead has a ripple effect that messes the whole SSA computer house of cards. And it’s flat out illegal to lie when modifying government records (also, DOGe is blatantly ignoring an injunction that says they cannot access or modify SSA PII. Turns out the criminals rent the green card holders on H1Bs who are being marked dead. They are the DOGe Bros. I hope they all get shipped to El Salvador.

No. But that’s not what is happening here. Illegal immigrants can’t get SSNs. They aren’t just cancelling SSNs either. They are declaring legal immigrants, who re working legally with approved visas dead, which blows up their lives— with no due process. And nothing stops them from declaring American citizens who oppose Trump dead next.

Illegal aliens don’t qualify for benefits.
That is not what they are doing here. They are illegally changing federal records and declaring legal immigrants as dead when they are actually alive.
I think the Trump administration has a looooong track record of not GAF about records laws, or heck, laws in general. So who will stop him from his illegality?!
