Did you attend? I'm a recent grad and this isn't really true for preppy, well-adjusted students. The social scene is dominated by Greek life. Sure a majority don't join, but a large majority of those who go out and party do so joining Greek life is imperative to having a fun, fulfilled social life.

My DD is a second year, in a sorority and is thriving. She has NoVA friends and from NJ, PA and NY. Her current off campus apartment building is walking distance. The dorms were just fine. The food in the dorm cafeterias is meh to bad.

She was not accepted into her school of choice after applying this January, but had little issues pivoting to another option.

Seems like the OP’s kid would fit right in. Now, the OOS tuition would make this school out of reach for us, but if OP can afford it, it should be a good fit.

My son is a 2nd year at UVA. We are from NOVA. He's thriving and has made lots of friends and is involved in several activities. He is not in a fraternity and does not fit the typical "frat boy" personality. There is definitely a Greek scene there with the partying frat boys and sorority girls and certain houses have that more than others. You can find their Instagram pages if you are interested. My son did not join Greek life, but joined a debate club that he says is a "fraternity and sorority for nerds". There are so many clubs and groups at UVA that you do not have to fit into that preppy mold if you don't want to. But it is definitely there if that is something that you like as well.

So many different types of people there! It’s a big school.

+1 The majority don't go Greek there, so there's plenty to do.
