The screenings will affect people applying for permanent residence status as well as foreigners affiliated with educational institutions. The policy will go into effect immediately.”

It is only chilling if you are an antisemite, OP. If only there were a word to describe . . . oh yeah,
NAZIS.

Why is it good? Why don't they monitor for other racist posts? Why just pick anti-semitism?
Because I’m a Jew and we don’t need to be importing Jew haters.
Well, I'm Asian American, and we don't need to import Asian haters. My neighbor is black, and we don't need to import black people haters.
So, where's the monitoring for that?

What about how we are against affirmative action. No group should get preferential treatment.
Anonymous wrote:Bc if we can see their antisemitic social media posts then so can hostile foreign actors--and these immigrants can then be targeted/cultivated to actively promote hostilities. There is a lawsuit currently going forward allegedly showing that several foreign actors did this in relation to some of the campus protests in the wake of oct. 7.
It's not bc Jews are "more special" than other minority groups, just a reflection of the current moment. Obviously you can be critical of Israel and not be anti-Semitic, but that line can also be blurred. Hostile foreign actors don't really care ima out the nuance, they just want to further stoke domestic division. And a new immigrant, especially if they come from a place where actual jew-hatred is perfectly mainstream, is currently an ideal target.

Interestingly, some Jewish groups have disavowed this approach. For example, this group quoted in the article:
J-Street, a Washington group which describes itself as pro-Israel, pro-peace and pro-democracy, was quick to disavow the new policy.
"The fight against antisemitism won't be advanced by attacks on 250-year-old cherished American rights like free speech," said the group's president Jeremy Ben-Ami.
"The Trump administration's own appointees have social media accounts riddled with antisemitism, demonstrating how insincere they are in claiming their totalitarian attacks on higher education and immigrants will make Jewish Americans safer and that they are motivated by genuine concern for our wellbeing."
Also, in response to the abduction of the Turkish student in a Boston suburb a few weeks ago, 50 rabbis in the Boston area signed a letter condemning the act and calling for the student's release. They are skeptical about the Trump administration's purported concern about fighting anti-semitism. You can read the letter here. So clearly not all Jews think this sort of thing is a good idea.

We're not special enough, apparently.
Isn't this Trump putting one group of people over another, like he claims that DEI does.
