MD resident, African American, introvert but not shy, close family friends in Manhattan, wants an interdisciplinary experience and will likely minor in a social science (leaning towards economics).
My kid is a sophomore from NOVA and loves UMD. Hes a CS major. He was placed in the 4 year Gemstone program. Bailed after a year. NOTE: Don't think UMD has a DS major. Major is CS with DS "track".

Subject: UMD vs. NYU
^ PP here.. my kid is at UMD CS, honors with merit. They would not have picked NYU over UMD for CS. They said UMD CS has a lot of great opportunities. And now a days, it's super hard to get into UMD for CS (only 600 direct admit), so if your kid got direct admit honors, your kid did really really well.

For CS/eng, def UMD. If it was business, NYU. For other majors, toss up. Outcomes aren't that different.
