Perhaps if there were any real consequences for all the “bad” things that happened in the bathrooms they would be used only for what they were intended for.

This is a major issue with both of the candidates running for Student Member of the Board.

I don't think it as easy as just keeping the bathrooms unlocked. We really need to address the vaping, fights, assaults and vandalism that happens in the bathrooms. Do we just ignore those things? My daughter won't use some bathrooms because of these things happening. And even if bathrooms are open, some students will just sit in stalls to skip, so they aren't available any way.

I gave up after they did nothing after Magruder. And I don't mean the staff. The security team is top notch. But real change had to come from the top. And it never did.

MCPS is allergic to outcomes and accountability.

If they knew bathrooms are a problem, wasn't there any way for them to design the school bathrooms differently?

There is zero excuse for closing bathrooms. Our school has had locked bathrooms for a few years. They need to have at least a dozen, if not more security guards at every MS and HS.

This doesn’t sound like a safe environment. Almost all the bathrooms are closed during lunch. He has other friends (boys and girls) who have the same problem. When will this change?

Update: the doors at the entrance to student bathrooms were removed today at Northwood/Woodward. Wonder if they caught wind of our thread?

Are you new around here?
So a brand new school's front bathroom doors are removed? Already in the first year?

What do you propose be done with the current budget shortfall?

They arent. They are pulling hairs, writing, shouting at apathetic "leaders". wonder if those "leaders" have kids in mcps middle and high schools.

Thank you—and to the “unneeded” poster—are you simple?

If you have 75% of the students the school has room for, you only need 75% of the bathrooms/classrooms. So make life easier for the teachers/security assistants (whose ratio matches the number of students not the number of classrooms) and close off excess space, which makes everyone safer.

Bathrooms = unneeded

DP. No, just that they may not need every bathroom in the building for the smaller population currently occupying it.
