Agreed that it is mainly the law school. The law school has become the feeder school for clerkships to Trump appointed judges. They have really leaned hard into that. In terms of number of high level clerkships, GMU is now competing with Yale, Harvard, etc. because that is where the Trump judges are hiring from. Thomas has one and had one a few years ago.

Because it went through a period of time in the 90s and 00s where it became a home for quite a few conservative academics, particularly in the econ department. And then that attracted some conservative students, etc etc.

GMU's problem is that it is in the backyard of most NOVA kids and who wants that for college? Kids should spread their wings. Otherwise, a better option than some other publics.

We live very close by but don't have need to really be on campus much. We did an official tour and our impression was actually really positive. Nice campus and buildings. It seems like a school that has a goal of preparing students for careers, whereas some other schools feel more like the traditional college experience.

Having said that, our child will apply but prefers not to go to school in her backyard. Fair enough.

Their website says it's the largest research college in Virginia. The campus has been updated very nicely. It definitely has a lot going for it. It's just very large. Not everyone wants a large school like VT and GMU.

Not many people know who George Mason was. To most people it sounds like it was named after a guy who manages a muffler repair shop in Herndon.
