Op here and here we are, at an Airbnb. The first few days (and in the car) the cat was completely fine! We are now on day 8 (our stay was unexpectedly extended) and the last few days she’s been WAILING on and off all day. Last night, she meowed loudly all night at our bedroom door - she doesn’t sleep with us at home either, because she wakes me up by climbing on and off me all night. She usually sleeps with my kids but she won’t go in their rooms at night here. Anything we can do? I got 2 hours of sleep last night and I have a big job interview today. Ugh

Your cat would have started eating again when it was hungry enough.

Cats are so easy! Do you have any friends who could take your cat for this period?

I do short term fostering for a local rescue and the cat is always confined to one of my guest bedrooms (I guess the master bathroom would also work). The cats seem fine and the rescue had no issue with this arrangement either. If I knew you IRL I’d help you out with this.

Doing so would definitely traumatize your cat.

Bring your cat & just keep an eye on it.
I agree that trimming the claws would be a good idea to do beforehand.

You can either take the cat, or see if a friend or neighbor can keep her for the time you’ll be away. She could be confined to just one room with her litter and food if a friend keeps her (as long as they spend some time with her each day to play with and pet her).

Neither is perfect, but she’ll be fine either way.

iME cats fuss for a bit in the car and then settle down. I would confine her to the bedroom where you sleep at the Airbnb. Bring a fleece blanket and shower curtain liner from home and cover the bed with liner and blanket during the day. Also be EXTREMELY careful about keeping her indoors at the Airbnb- if she gets out, she’ll try to find her way home.

Board her at a vet hospital. That is what I always do when I have this situation or vacation. I know my cats are safe. It costs a bit but I trust that they are safe.

Don't do this. The fumes from the refinishing will be really bad. Plus you don't want a cat sitter walking through your freshly finished floors while they are drying.

Op here. Yeah, we could actually keep her in the finished basement but I think she’d be freaked out by the noise, smells, etc. We actually found an Airbnb on a farm with many animals. The house allows pets unrestricted and isn’t fancy at all, so I think it’s the perfect solution. Now we will just have to make the 2 hour ride easier for her. I’m very curious how she’ll do in the strange house and just hope she doesn’t keep us up all night meowing. She’s a pretty vocal cat on a good day.
