This is tricky. UVA is ranked higher on USNWR and is more "coveted" in the DC area for those who want to remain in the Mid-Atlantic. It's a good school and a good price for VA kids. UGA has more national name recognition and a better alumni network in the south. It is also a well-respected school and can often cost about the same as VA schools if your kid gets the scholarship that covers half the difference between in and out of state. The ranking alone isn't enough reason to choose one over the other.
UGA is better known nationally and UVA is well known in the DC area and VA,,
I feel like you try this in every thread that mentions UVA. It's a school with more applications from OOS than in.
OP, you have to let your kid visit and decide which one feels like the better school for them.
THIS!

Anonymous wrote:I'm the poster who replied about the NY privates and boarding schools. I think both UGA and UVA are great schools. I replied what I did because previous posters were saying that both are unknown in NYC circles. They're not--UVA is viewed in an entirely different light if you look at matriculations from many elite high schools. Perhaps this will change. I personally would love it as my kid received the UGA scholarship which will make it in-state tuition when combined with DC Tag. He is strongly considering it.

The top NYC privates, boarding schools, etc there are always many to UVA and none to UGA.
I put all my life decisions to the NYC private school litmus test.
Perfection!
