It's probably a fake letter because lawyers don't press criminal charges.
This seems likely. An actual attorney would be easy to look up on your bar's website. If you do find something, I agree that writing back requesting specific citations is fair. If you don't, write back that you will consider further communications harassment and cc the neighbors so they're officially notified. Then consider filing a peace order to keep your crazy neighbors away from you if they don't take the hint. Definitely get a doorbell cam in case they come a knockin', and do NOT record the child's window (agree with the pp that says the kiddie pron angle isn't great for your case). Call the non-emergency police line and have them come out and discuss the matter with you. They will also likely be able to tell the neighbors that you don't want communication and they should leave you alone. Get a copy of the incident report number so you have another paper trail showing you drew the boundary (because people like this tend to cross them).
I'd also out them on nextdoor, especially if that atty letter turns out to be fake, but I'm petty.

First I would call CPS if a child under 18 isn't being supervised. Then I would install install cameras on your property should this go to court. This to protect yourself.
Something isn't right here with them...let the cops or CPS figure this out. Did you speak with police? What did they say?

There is a dude in NOVA with a daughter that likes to undress in public and now they are trying to come after us, for.... something.
I'm guessing he wants to sue us for seeing his daughter nude but she does this on purpose.
I want to get ahead of his game before he turns psycho. I'm going to install a ring camera. Honestly I wonder if I should call the cops.

I probably wouldn't aim cameras at the window. Recording minors is a can of worms you simply don't want to open.
Generally I agree BUT here's the thing: they now opened up OP to a lawsuit, now OP has to protect and defend herself and her position should they sue her. She will only have her word against them unless she has some sort of proof. But this is also why I said to call the police for assistance too.
OP needs to prove they don't look out the window? You do understand how ridiculous that sounds, right?
No, clearly you misunderstood. Proof that their daughter is acting like she's working a window in Amsterdam and that's WHY they're claiming OP keeps staring into their windows. Why else would they care if she wasn't putting on a show?

Anonymous wrote:We have been in our boring NOVA single family house since 2007. It's a very standard 1950s house in an older, close-in area. All the houses in the subdivision are one of four models, sitting on 1/2 acre lots. About a year ago, the original owners across the street sold the house.
The home sold quickly and the new buyers redid the kitchens and baths, put in new windows, new roof, new systems, etc. but kept the house's floor plan as-is, except for converting the attached garage into a bedroom.
This was all done professionally by a well known design build firm in the DC area.
The family moved in two months ago and their 17ish year old daughter took the new garage bedroom. It has a massive picture wndow (4'x 4') that she loves to completely undress in front of. Every. Day. We have both lost count of the number of times we have seen her in various states of undress.
The room has blinds because they are closed when she is sleeping, but otherwise it is open to the world and literally directly across the street from our living room's large picture window. Anyone sitting in our living room gets a show whether they want it or not. Our living room is where we sit at night.
Today, my spouse and I came home to a... certified-mailing-demand-letter of sorts, written by their attorney demanding that we stop looking at 'that window' or face 'criminal' charges. This was written by a lawyer, not a police officer.
'That' window is.... due east. Are we not to look out our living room window in an eastward fashion from this point on because their daughter is an exhibitionist? This is so..... nuts that I don't know if we are bound to reply or if we can ignore it as the insanity it is.
So, can a person undress in front of an open window and demand the public not look that direction?
