How autistic are you, OP? "Why dog?"
What kind of question is this?
"Why flowers?" "Why love?" "Why sunshine?"

For many people, of course not all, there is tremendous joy in a well-trained dog. I don't see the appeal to an out of control dog. But training takes effort.

My dog is walking happiness. He’s just joy and love in a soft, warm 70 lb package.

I will always have a dog.

Didn't say this generation it says society so obvi dogs have been around. Question was why? From the answers:
companionship seems to be the main reason.

Hope this helps explain.

A golden retriever? they are known to perform that magic

Lhasa Apso. He usually works his way into her arms and then they both cuddle and take a nap while I then make dinner.
Hey wait! This may be a well thought out conspiracy between those two.

Golden retrievers are wonderful dogs too. My neighbor has a sweetheart of a golden retriever that plays with our dog.

You making dinner while others nap..yep definitely a conspiracy

And the cost of the important and expert therapy he provides is very inexpensive, a few bites of what we are having for dinner if safe for him to have.

After my children went to college, he eased the sadness of an empty nest. I miss him while at work and when he can't travel with us. There is something so special watching him experience such joy when we play with him, feed him, take him on walks, bring him new toys.... he appreciates small things in life and is so loved. Seeing life through his eyes has taught me a lot. I dread the day when he is no longer with us. He is so important to our family.

Love.

It's real. Sad.

Why don't you start a new thread with that question. Maybe not in the Pets forum. Off list or Foods forum.

Lol see those dog owners in knee high snow not looking so happy on those days

It’s not always fun in the moment but I’m (almost) always happy we got outside once we’re home and warm/dry.
