SYC is the ONLY team I know where each team is responsible for team fees. Where the coach will tell you which tournament to play in and how many tournaments to play in. Team fee is collected and pays for the coach car rental, hotel and food.

It gets even messier when your child is a future player and is basically on the second team but can be called up to the first team.

Bolded is the standard everywhere. If a club includes tournaments in fees, families are still responsible for coach's travel and accommodations. Who else would tell you what tournaments to play? You think that should be up to the parents? I'm confused by what you are saying or you must not have been at other places before.

Players getting called up from the second team to the first is also pretty common everywhere unless you carry a roster of 20+.

You must be living under a rock or have a big stupid sticker on your face.

VDA, Arlington and Alexandria just to name a few of the local clubs that DOES NOT nickel and dime the parents, everything has already been factored into the league fee.

VDA = Does in fact bill families with club dues and then team fees, this is normal practice. Club dues cover your league play and maybe a few included events, for VDA its typically the ones they hold, then the team fee varies, this was even covered in their town hall stating that U15+ the team fee will be high because they're doing a lot more events.

This goes for a lot of clubs, not sure what you're talking about, same has been for SYC so I can't say what you're thinking they're doing is nickel and diming folks.
NVA/LS the same. Crazy thing this year … same dues… no buses. They all charge… pretty normal

suck for those who has been with them for awhile. they get nothing no support. new players got trails at academy or picked for US ID camps. great place for new players, you didn't get a look at your old club but will on this team.

The certainly recruit aggressively. Doesn't show a lot of confidence or investment in their development program. As long as you're winning . . . .I guess

No need to be mean. Key take away is players pay one way or another - either collected by club or team. Tournaments and coach travel is NOT free.

No one said anything was free.

exactly, from VDA website:

Team Fee:
This fee will be collected within your club fee registration & will cover the following areas:

Additional ECNL National Events
Event Fees for 3-5 additional events (exact events are listed for your team and can be seen during the registration process)
Staff travel for additional events

Additional Fees:
These additional fees are associated with the cost of participating with the program but are not directly paid to VDA. These fees are no less important and should be factored in when committing to the program

Uniform Costs (Generally $400-$500)
Family travel costs to get to each training session/game/event
ECNL Playoffs - teams that qualify for playoffs will incur an additional expense that will be billed independently as you qualify

VDA Boys 2009 (U16) club -$3,200 field $125 team - $720 Total - 4,045 plus the additional if they qualify for playoffs

SYC figures probably come to about the same, you are just paying it separately instead of directly to the club.

They're still holding sessions by invite, so likely not.
