I read that she had a space heater near her so I do wonder CM but so far the police say no. He was in another room and they say it looks like he fell. He may have found her and panicked and fell and died. She may have killed herself upset that he was getting older.
Or she may have been cold and died accidentally by the heater and he found her and was so upset he died. The other dogs I think were found outside and the door was slightly ajar which makes me wonder if they were able to nudge it open. The tragedy is not for him as he lived a long and productive life and enjoyed long good health. It is sad for his wife who was so much younger and that one dog. Well also for his kids and grandkids who didn’t get to say good bye.

I think the detail a out the dog is what makes people think it was carbon monoxide. Regarding the other dogs, Carbon monoxide is slightly lighter than air so of the dogs were smaller or were sleeping under the bed rather than on it, it could explain why they survived.

Lifelong dog owner/lover here and I am in NO WAY condoning this but people have definitely killed their own dogs - you’ve clearly never met a farmer. Or heard anything about our current Secretary of Homeland Security. And there have definitely been murder suicide situations where the murderer has killed the dog as well.

Farmers don't usually MURDER their own dogs.

And Republicans in government are obviously a wholly different breed.

I didn’t say it was usual but it definitely happens. Therefore “no one ever kills their own dog” is false.

Sounds like they passed two weeks ago or so. Maybe he died of a natural death and she took her own life (found surrounded by pills), with one of the dogs stuck indoors with no access to water.

I feel this too. I’m going to binge Hackman movies now.

I have his Oscar winning movie "Unforgiven" on DVD. I'll be watching it again very soon. It's a great movie with him, Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman. Another movie of his that I enjoyed years ago was "The Poseidon Adventure". I haven't seen it in years. Hopefully, it will be broadcast again in honor of him.

Gene Hackman was a top class actor.

The Conversation by Coppola! I think about this movie all the time. It was so weird and so compelling.

The Conversation and the two French Connections are peak Hackman.
