You’re right, nobody wants a wellness day the last week of school. Which is why it isn’t. The wellness days are clearly posted on the calendar and if you bothered to read the thread you’d see it’s a primary Election Day.

While it isn't a wellness day it will probably feel like one for teachers!
They should simply end the year on Friday, June 12, 2026.

As a teacher no one will feel like this is a wellness day. Who wants a wellness day the day before the last day of school? This kind of stuff just makes people feel like they are wasting our time.

After a LONG excruciating school year (which is basically every year in DC) doesn't the first free day of the summer feel like a wellness day? I get that word wasn't used until COVID but it's a great feeling of relief! In this case it's one day too soon unless they just shorten the year.

There probably weren’t primaries that year.

(a-1) The District of Columbia Public Schools system shall be closed to instruction on election day for District primary and general elections in order to facilitate voting in its facilities, beginning with the 2024 primary election.

Why are people still speculating even after PP posted the law and reason why it’s closed on June 16?

Weird.

With the one exception of someone thinking it's Juneteenth people aren't are speculating the reason for the closure after that post, instead it's why they couldn't end just a day or two earlier to avoid this strange ending.
