I make sure I have enough to make five days worth of food

I typically get a special drink for the kids and some special wine for DH a myself, plus a special desert. We have these on whatever night is the first “snow day”

Stuff to bake muffins and cookies

Make sure you have TP and any other health items you anticipate needing in the next few days

I’ve been stuck at home for several days about a dozen times, a few of them without power. And it wasn’t really a big deal. The times without power were frustrating but luckily when it happened I had a gas stove and it was during the summer.

But don’t people usually have pantry items like canned tuna, tomato sauce, pasta, rice, a few cans of soup maybe, some olives, nuts…not to mention what’s in the fridge and freezer. You might not be able to satisfy every craving but most people tend to have enough to last at least a week, without actually stocking up. We all have a couple of cupboards and assuming you can afford groceries, they’re never actually empty.

I don’t really get the anxiety. I had no toilet paper for weeks at the start of Covid. I used tissue. I just didn’t flush it. If I run out of paper towel and there’s none on sale for a week or two, I use rags. I’m a pretty high maintenance person but none of this is a hardship.

It depends on what your family needs/likes. I always shop for the week on Saturday afternoon. I buy the same amount even if snow is forecasted, but bought extra of some things this time since the snow might affect my shopping next week. So I bought extra of the things that we definitely use and might run out of before next weekend (extra pack of chicken, eggs, and extra fresh and frozen vegetables).

I have a couple boxes of pasta and enough rice in my pantry because I can easily make meals with leftovers plus those items in my pantry, along with frozen vegetables.

I will go to the store after the snow is cleared which is going to suck, because I won’t have meal prep done next week, but oh well. It’s one week.

Keeping 5lb of steak in the freezer.
Aside from that, enough grocery for 5 days. 3 day supply of leafy green and 2 day supply of root vegetable.
