You hear about them on the Cape but they are in the water from Florida to Maine, including the Outer Banks. There were several reports of great whites "pinging" off OBX last summer.

The ping on their way up to CC, the islands and Maine usually during the spring. By summer, they are up north. There are other kinds of sharks near the OBX but the white population only stay for a very short time and then has a massive concentration in New England. In fact, I believe New England now has the largest concentration of great whites on the planet. Great watching and there are plenty of ponds and inlet areas with no sharks.

I enjoy the Cape and the beaches are pretty but the water is so dang cold. Plus the sharks are no joke. The last time we were there the beach closed temporarily because a shark attacked a seal right near shore. Really, the sharks are very close to shore on the Cape due to the seal population. You can see seals on the Cape, but don't go in the water if you do. On the other hand, nice vibes, good seafood, nice towns with shops. It's harder to get waterfront houses but it's very charming. I would suggest MV....more to do and Katama (South) beach has warmer water.

I really enjoyed OBX. Water is so much warmer and you get more for your money housing wise, including more opportunities for pool time. Plus we did other activities like a banana boat ride.

Agree with other posters that both are great and a but apples to oranges.

For cape cod, the beach is just a background, it’s not a central activity. You can compare cape cod to going to a lake in Michigan. The weather and activities are closer to that.

I like both and I would go to both for different purposes, but wouldn’t compare them with each other because they are very different.

I think this is spot on. Like the the PP, I don't consider them the venue for the same type of vacation. I am not a beach person, but if I wanted a beach vacation I'd never consider Cape Cod to be a good choice.

What would you consider CC for then?
