Yes, it was this year. It did seem odd that they'd be this certain this early, but I don't know why Trinity of all places would be trying to spare my feelings by lying instead of simply sending a polite email that they weren't interested in moving forward. Maybe they had a last-minute application from a legacy or a big donor or whatever and that person is ahead of us in the queue if a spot opens up?

We put in an attrition application at Trinity, were told that they would actually like us to complete it because they anticipated some space, did so, and then were told that actually they made a mistake and they didn't have any space after all, so either they were expending a lot of effort sending us misleading emails or there's some serious confusion in their admissions office over enrollment numbers.
