I’m not sure what home rule would be for at this point? What do they want to change?
They want to outlaw abortion and implement all kinds of social engineering.
Who would technically run DC? The House?
IDK, whoever is running it now is running it into the ground. Crime and remote work drove most people away with only residential areas having any street life. Apart from some ritzier residential areas DC had been going downhill and encampments are everywhere. So much wasted RE and wasted urban grid and transit. Whatever happens it can't possibly be worse?
This post is so dumb I can't believe I'm even replying to it, but this is just egregiously wrong. The population is at a 25 year high, metro ridership is breaking records, crime is down. I mean sure I wish some things were better but life in DC is great for hundreds of thousands of people. If you hate it so much, nobody is making you live here, but that doesn't justify the federal government taking it over.

The executive branch. They already run parts of DC. The national parks service does local parks, Capitol police are responsible for parts of DC, etc.
True. The parts of DC under the executive branch are the only ones efficiently run. Can you imagine Bowser in charge of the National Mall or Rock Creek Park? It would be a disaster.
The National Park Service isn't an example of great governance...most of the national mall looks like shit and there is almost nothing done with Rock Creek Park.
I gather then you are fine with closing Beach Drive...that's NPS.
In comparison to the parts under the jurisdiction of DC government, the executive branch is doing a great job running its parts of DC.
That's again a silly statement. NPS barely has to do anything, and yet it does it badly. They don't provide security for the National Mall or RCP..DC does. They just have to cut and maintain the grass on the Mall (which they do a poor job) and literally don't do anything much in RCP...it's in fact mostly DC volunteers that do a bunch of maintenance in RCP.
Nobody who actually deals with NPS thinks they run a tight ship. It's way worse than dealing with DPR and DGS which services DC fields.
Again, in comparison to what the DC government does, it is still better. The Bowser government has placed the bar too low that anybody can do a better job. Even Trump and Elon Musk to say the least.
You clearly have no direct experience with these agencies…so why do you keep spewing shit.
You mention NPS for some bizarre reason when they do a shit job in DC and they in fact outsource things like field permitting to the DC government
Because they have no ability to handle that.
NPS is a total pain in the ass with things like Ft Reno where they are supposed to maintain it but barely do anything so Stoddert and JR boosters have to use their own money.
You don’t have a clue as to who actually does what in DC.

This wouldn't violate the Byrd Rule?
Getting rid of Home Rule would greatly increase the federal budget. And it would do so beyond the 10 year budgeting window - a big violation of the Byrd Rule.
This is DOA.
This type of post is why I love DC. Gotta love the policy nerds.
DC doesn’t want that and neither does Maryland. Give it up.Anonymous wrote:If this happens, we may hear calls for retrocession back to Maryland.
