This is all so appalling - can’t understand why anyone thinks he represents religion in positive and authentic way.

The cynical exploitation of culture war wedge issues to give a thin patina of moral credibility is so obvious.

He is not bringing religion back but degrading it. But that is for God to judge not me - but people of faith should be aware is not on the side of angels.

Trump and Musk’s relentless cruelty and chaos as he treats innocents as expendable stage props in his many dumb and illegal grandstanding actions is beyond belief.

US enemies (Russia and Iran) are gloating over their dismantling of USAID as they know it will severely diminish US influence through soft diplomacy.

Major Trade partners (China, Canada and likely EU) have announced many retaliatory measures for the trade tarrifs that will not just affect China steel but many sectors. The US farming export sector is likely to be particularly hard hit, in addition to general consumers as the cost of living will sky rocket.

Federal agencies that needed fat trimming have been met with ill thought out demolition derbies being carried out by tech bros with no authorization or government experience.

The fed hit list for anyone that Trump perceived as an enemy is obviously not Christian behavior. Treating non criminal immigrants as animals and raiding churches and schools for mass deportations is the opposite of teachings to treat foreigners either compassion in both Old and New Testaments. Also he blocked the most comprehensive bi partisan legislation to counter illegal immigration back in 2023 so that he could pretend to be the anti immigration messiah.

I hope that the US can survive the hijacking of the federal government and degradation of constitutional safeguards guards. We need separation of church and state to protect the integrity of both.

This thread makes me think of Dave Chappelle on SNL recently (stay with me here). He was talking about Jimmy Carter and how he didn't know if Carter was a good president or not, but he saw Carter go into the West Bank without security and after they'd told him they couldn't guarantee his safety because he thought it was important to highlight displaced people and the impact of the conflict on them, so he knew he was a good man.

And I think this is true. I am a lapsed Catholic but was raised with the idea that you showed devotion to Christ through your acts and good deeds, not through just saying you believed. I don't go to church but I try to live morally and treat others with kindness and love. At the end of the day, I think that's what matters.

Trump, unlike someone like Jimmy Carter who was truly good man, has no interest in living a moral life or showing kindness and love towards his fellow man.

I think he wants to use religion as a political tool to consolidate power. I think he knows that by saying he cares about Christians and Christianity, he thinks he can get a lot of Christians to vote for him and support him. I don't think he actually cares at all about anyone but himself and perhaps his immediate family.

The post just affirms Trump's atheism. It doesn't make statements about all atheists, who seem to be like everyone else, regardless of religion -- some good, some bad.

I think people hide behind religion as they can use it to absolve them of their "sins" and then justify it.

No, he doesn't care. He's trying to appease his voter base - see how he says "people of religion are going to be happy again." If you are happy with your religion you don't need to impose it on others.

If he believes in God, he should behave in a way fitting of that.
