I would stay away from anyone that is explicitly hateful towards any population group (Black, White, men, women, trans people, etc.). If they just say a stupid thing once in a while I'll try to challenge it but generally won't let it affect the relationship but I won't tolerate outright hatred.

You’d probably change your mind if you went on a road trip and your car broke down.
lol why? Maga would rob and kill any democrat they come across. Maga are not good people. They are hate filled criminals.
Go watch the videos from last year comparing what happens when someone wears a Kamala hat to a Trump rally vs. when somebody wears a Trump hat to a Kamala rally. In general, there was a lot more politeness at the Trump rallies and a lot more abuse at the Kamala rallies.

I think it’s valuable to learn why people voted for trump or maga and we need to be aware of those factors. That being said - friends? Nah. Fundamental huge values misalignment as I think trump is evil incarnate so to me would be like someone voted for putin or Stalin to run America. Would not be friends with them either. Interested in why? Yes. Friends - no.
Having differing opinions of Trump is not the same as having opposing political viewpoints. Trump is not a political viewpoint. We all can agree he sucks as a human being while at the same time we can have opposing opinions on most appropriate income tax code.
