I have no idea what is wrong with these boys and why they are so scared of girls. She said a ton of girls liked him in high school, but she described him as an enigma. He had absolutely no clue and I mean none that anyone could possibly be interested in him.

Umm the internet and screens to stare at 24/7 instead. A bunch of introvert perverted boys looking up porn and using their hand. No need to socialize and get to know girls.
And the ones that do either get into a long term commitment because they are too lazy to care or become players
Yeah internet porn and forums has absolutely changed boys/teens/men.
Fortunately, social media has had no effect on us at all.

Anonymous wrote:There are lots of teens dating and going on dates (at least in my daughters friend group) but school dances are just not events for a first date for these kids. Usually school dances are group events with friends anyway.
They usually have weeks long “talking stages” leading up to any actual dates, unless they are friends first, so by the time there is a date they have already established a relationship of sorts. It’s just not the same as we did it but it’s not a bad way to do things really. Other than many teens get stuck in the talking stage and don’t seem to make it to the date stage which makes it look like so many of them aren’t romantically involved.

They are not “scared of girls.” They are scared of false accusations of lack of consent or even accusations of date.-rape.
Why bother?

She is debating not going to prom because she won't have a date (she's always gone to dances with a group of friends before). So do boys not ask girls out unless they are already dating?
Prom has always been highly over-rated. Even back when they were held in the school gym decorated with crepe paper streamers and balloons. Time to update. Schools don't even have gyms big enough anymore, so tickets to dances are limited and/or dances are held off-site - increasing the costs.

Anonymous wrote:Just very little dating in general. They hang out and go to functions in groups. Then sometimes they are “talking to somebody.” This seems to have largely replaced dating. It’s essentially them communicating privately and flirtatiously, which sometimes leads to being a couple. They still mostly go out with their group but occasionally do something separate and they have some sort of physical relationship.
