This happened to me! I just started running this year and have worked up to training for a half marathon. The hunger really surprised me. I figured out that my body was really craving carbs post run. I started eating carbs before my run (toast wtih PB and banana and a mini rice krispie treat). After my run, i force myself to eat a banana and drink a some protein powder mixed with milk (im never hungry after a long run). I am way less hungry later- I focus on having a high volume meal with protein and carbs. It is so much better. Basically, what you eat really matters!

You’re burning 500 max and that’s generous for a big dude. If you’re a woman it’s closer to 300 calories for the entire 5K. You don’t need a ton of extra food if any. Drink plenty of water. Maybe eat some fruit or vegetables if you’re truly “starving”

+1. This is why people are against cardio for weight loss. The trade off isn’t actually worth it.

I am sure your heart prefers the running to get stronger, including your leg muscles and your butt. Not exercising hard because your appetite increases is nutso.
