Schools are not peers. If you like Roanoke perhaps look at Washington College in MD.
Why does any of this matter for a high stat kid that would be successful at either college?
I hate to summon the bucknell boosters, but W&L actually places on the Street. Roanoke doesn’t. The best Roanoke College grad is probably going to Advance Auto corporate to do FP&A.
Do you have a cite?
Niche has Roanoke grads at 44k six years out, W&L at 76k. If you think the OCR opportunities at both colleges are equal, you're deluded.
(And I HATE W&L so I'm not saying this as a booster.)
Roanoke is a good safety school for someone considering W&L however. Reasonably similar vibes given the academic and outcome gulf between them.
A top kid from Roanoke could make the same as a W&L grad six years out, no?
I don't know that we can infer that from the bare averages, but even assuming we could, what does it say that if you are at the absolute top of the food chain at Roanoke and really minmax your experience there, you can end up earning the same as a bog average W&L graduate? Not good things about Roanoke.
Beyond that, there's OCR. I know for a fact that MBB consulting firms recruit at W&L. I believe bulge bracket banks may as well. None of them recruit at Roanoke. You wouldn't even have the chance to get your foot in the door to prove yourself as a top kid from Roanoke.
If the kid from Roanoke ends up earning the same salary as a W&L kid then that’s a good look for Roanoke, no?
He’s not. He’s selling casualty insurance in Martinsville.
You seem confused. Roanoke isn’t a regional state school. Roanoke is a national university with a large presence of kids from the mid-Atlantic and Northeast. You think those kids are settling in Martinsville? Lol you really need to get out of your bubble more often.
LOL. Nearly 2/3 of the student body comes from Virginia or North Carolina. https://apps.roanoke.edu/IR/PDF-Files/Enrl2022Spring.pdf
“Northeast States” (if I generously include PA as a Northeast State) is 20%. Without PA, Northeast States is 13%.
111 from MD

You can't make Roanoke happen. Especially by name dropping a school like W&L. Sorry. The ONLY thing both have in common is that they are in the confederate area of Virginia.

If money is really a factor, then I'd look long and hard at Roanoke and seeing if you can make it work. Successful people have come out of Roanoke. But W&L really is that much higher ranked and opens that many more doors so it can't be discounted either.
Also consider what your child wants to do in college. If he or she is interested in going into business or law or consulting afterwards, W&L hands down due to alum networking and ease of getting better internships leading to analyst roles. The name on resumes opens more doors. If child is more interested in going to med school or a master's in whatever, maybe save the money and go to Roanoke and be at the top of the class.
Roanoke is nationally ranked just like W&L and we heard they have a similar vibe. Are the students similar socially? Is there really evidence that W&L grads get better jobs?
Please. Roanoke is "nationally ranked," like every college in the country is "nationally ranked." Yes, it is somewhere in the rankings. Nowhere near W&L.
You must not understand how rankings work. Some colleges are ranked regionally, Roanoke isn’t because Roanoke is in the national rankings. USNWR says Roanoke is a national LAC.
So you're one who lives and dies by USNWR. Got it. There are other rankings, in case you didn't know that.

Let us try to explain again. Wash & Lee is around 19 for LACS. Roanoke is 122. It's even lower for all colleges and universities -like 198. That is not good. Yes, it's technically listed in the rankings because some poor college has to be bottom 25Th percentile or lower for the ranking to make any sense. Is Roanoke "bragging" it's "nationally ranked"? If so, that's pathetic since it takes a second to see where.
