That’s true in the aggregate, but National is a much riskier airport than average due to the short runways and crowded airspace. FWIW, I don’t believe driving to Dulles instead creates any meaningful incremental risk.

Of course not- I support removing non-emergency copter flights within the last few miles of the DCA flight paths. But the relative risk is still not comparable.

If you want actual assessment based on reasonable actual numbers, here you go for a trip you have to fly on:

1. Drive the shortest distance necessary- this is by far the biggest thing you can do on your trip to lower your risk
2. Fly nonstop- adding a takeoff and landing to your trip adds another cycle of the riskiest parts of flying
......
48. Prefer Dulles and BWI over DCA, all of the above being otherwise equal.
