It might be wise to contact your school's principal first, just to find out what their plans are for next year.

My principal says they have no knowledge of this.

The FAQ says "All elementary schools will provide literacy enrichment for students who met the central review criteria and are not placed in the CES by lottery. Models of enrichment may vary by school. Please contact your local school to learn more" so you're definitely on solid ground reaching out to the school. In past years that section had a description of the ELC.

No. There should be no need for that level of advocacy. mCPS knows students need it and they should be offering it to ALL students who need it regardless of school, and making sure the Admin are following through on offering it at their school. Parents can advocate within school to ensure it's happening but advocacy at the level that those PTA families were engaged in is ridiculous there should be no need for parents to engage..do your job school district

+100. Starting advocacy for this or anything else can start real close to your home, like with your own school. Reach out to your PTA to make it an agenda item for discussion at the next meeting. Don’t have a PTA, send an email to your school principal and Reading Specialist asking for a meeting to speak with all 3rd-5th grade parents about literacy for the current and upcoming year. Then have them send the meeting invite via Class Reminds.

If Moms for Liberty can become a nationally known organization, certainly folks in MoCo can figure out how to organize around this.

Whoa, calm down! Yes of course MCPS should do this right without parents having to advocate, but it's still a valid question to ask whether there likely have been/will be parents in the PTA advocating around this or not. Or is it just that there were a few specific people active in the PTA on this in the past who are no longer active, so it's less likely to happen?

(How can we as new people step up and get involved? I am not our school's gifted PTA liaison, are there any other ways?)

Join your schools PTA and ask them and your Administration about things.
Join any of the MCCPTA elist and post questions/ideas there.
Attend any of the upcoming budget hearings and ask about funding for Enriched and Accelerated instruction in the base budget and needs for it to be increased to ensure materials, teacher PD, and appropriate curriculum.
Reach out to your ES Reading Specialist and/or Gifted Liaison.
