No. That’s just the profile of the kids accepted from DC’s school. It’s a fairly large sample too. But few end up attending.

Let me be more precise: over the past five years, about 60 kids applied, and about 20 were accepted. Most of the applications (and acceptances) were EA. Fewer than 5 ended up enrolling.

It’s a great school in a warm climate with a fun environment, and great sports being so close to Duke. The research triangle is booming and NC state is in Raleigh. Makes it a fun place to go to college and live after. Many people love Chapel Hill and Carolina blue. It doesn’t have a stuffy or elite vibe. That being said, mine wanted to go to Northeast!

Why not focus on NC State? All of the things you mentioned are also true for NC State and an oos kid can actually get in.

The thread title asking about UNC, but yes, it’s a great school also and a better choice for engineering and computer science. It’s also becoming a harder admit though as more are shut out at UNC. I personally think NC State is super underrated, the opportunities and connections are incredible and some of those companies are literally on campus.

When does everyone think UNC EA will come out?

We have a student there on a full-ride merit scholarship. Recent grad of FCPS, 1550+ SAT, 4.6+ GPA, strong ECs with some national recognition, no other hooks. Rather not discuss more specifics, but our child loves UNC and living in Chapel Hill. OOS acceptances and scholarships do happen for DMV students. Not obsessed. Considering it along with many other state flagships.
