I am 15 years in (so fairly senior) and routinely make all 5s on my performance reviews (only a small percentage can get perfect ratings in all areas). I’m a strong performer and have good relations with managers.

So I’m not going to be fired for poor performance and it’s unlikely a RIF would ever reach my service comp date. Really RTO and messing with benefits are the only things that could end up pushing me out.

I'm thinking of myself! And I'd much rather have a 5 day per week in the office job than no job at all.

I have a friend who is on probation and who I know got an (unfair) unfavorable review 2 years ago (so is vulnerable to RIF) who has been blowing my phone up about RTO. I want to say, hey buddy, should you be more concerned about keeping your job? But I don't think that would really help with his anxiety. I don't get it though.

+1. very bizarre. My guess is most of the people who are so focused on RTO will quit their jobs if RTO. So, RTO = their jobs eliminited. So same thing.

I won't quit. But reductions through attrition are by definition not me losing my job. The streamlining thing is not concrete yet, so nothing new today that we didn't know yesterday.

Attrition / hiring freeze means the remaining people have more to do with fewer resources. This is an old tale and career civil service is very familiar with it. It sucks for the mission, because certain things get dropped and expectations fall, but it doesn't usually lead to people quitting.
